VeriWorkly
Open-source, local-first career workspace for building ATS-friendly resumes, cover letters, and portfolio sites.
About this template
VeriWorkly is an open-source, local-first career workspace that combines a resume and cover letter editor, a portfolio website builder, an ATS checker, and AI writing help. Every document starts from a single Master Profile, an input record of your career history that new resumes and cover letters are generated from without being altered by edits to those documents.
What is VeriWorkly?
VeriWorkly is a privacy-first career workspace shipped as an npm workspaces monorepo with six Next.js 16 apps and two shared packages. Documents are stored in the browser's localStorage, so guests can build, edit, and export resumes and cover letters with no account; signing in adds cloud sync, sharing, AI features, ATS deep analysis, and imports. It runs on Node.js 22 with an Express 4 API, PostgreSQL with Prisma 7, and Redis 7 for sessions, rate limits, quotas, and job locks.
Key Features
- Local-first editor — Resumes and cover letters save to the browser as you type; guest mode is remembered by a 30-day
veriworkly-guest-modecookie. - Master Profile — A single record of career history that new documents start from, kept separate from any individual document.
- ATS checker — A deterministic scan powered by the open-source
@veriworkly/ats-enginepackage, plus optional AI analysis against a job description. - Browser exports — PDF via
@react-pdf/renderer, DOCX viadocx, plus HTML, Markdown, plain text, and JSON, with no headless browser on the server. - Cloud sync — Per-document sync to PostgreSQL with revision numbers, conflict detection, and a keep-local-only option.
- Templates — The studio ships 7 resume templates (including Precision ATS, Executive Clarity, Bold Impact, and Modern Minimal) and 5 cover letter templates.
- Portfolios — Website templates named Signal and Atelier (free, with a badge) and Nimbus and Cipher (paid); publishing is not yet enabled in production.
- Developer API — Scoped API keys and an OpenAPI reference at docs.veriworkly.com.
Who is it for?
- Job seekers who want to craft ATS-friendly resumes without creating an account, then export to PDF or DOCX from the browser.
- Privacy-conscious users who prefer documents to stay on their device, with an option to keep signed-in documents local only.
- Developers and self-hosters running the six-app monorepo locally or deploying it with Docker.
- Freelancers and creatives building a public portfolio site from the same Master Profile used for resumes.
What is the tech stack?
Frontends use Next.js 16 with the App Router, React 19, and Tailwind CSS 4, with Zustand for UI state and an in-house @veriworkly/ui design system. Auth is Better Auth with email one-time codes plus Google, GitHub, and LinkedIn sign-in; payments run on Dodo Payments; portfolio images are stored in Cloudflare R2. Documentation and the blog use Fumadocs and MDX.
How does VeriWorkly work?
Clone the repo, run npm install (which also generates the Prisma client), copy each app's .env.example into its own .env, and for the API set DATABASE_URL and REDIS_URL before running npm run db:migrate. Then start only what you need — the site on port 3000, studio on 3001, docs on 3002, blog on 3003, portfolio on 3004, and server on 8080. The site and studio run without the API in guest mode.
Is VeriWorkly free?
VeriWorkly is released under the MIT License and is free and open source. Some portfolio templates are free with a "Built with VeriWorkly" badge, while the Nimbus and Cipher templates are paid. Publishing portfolios is not yet enabled in production.
FAQ
Does VeriWorkly require an account?
No. Guest mode stores documents only in your browser's localStorage and is remembered via a 30-day cookie, so you can build and export without signing in. An account is needed for cloud sync, AI features, ATS deep analysis, imports, and sharing.
What export formats does VeriWorkly support?
Exports run entirely in the browser: PDF through @react-pdf/renderer, DOCX through docx, and also HTML, Markdown, plain text, and JSON. No headless browser runs on the server, so export happens client-side.
Can I self-host VeriWorkly?
Yes. It is an npm workspaces monorepo requiring Node.js 22.12 or later and npm 11; the API needs PostgreSQL and Redis 7, and migrations are applied with npm run db:migrate. A Docker guide is included in the repository's README.Docker.md.
