Quell
A free Astro one-page portfolio template for architects and design studios with a working contact form.
About this template
Quell is a free, MIT-licensed Astro template that gives an architect, structural engineer, or small design studio a one-page portfolio with a contact form that works without a backend.
What is Quell?
Quell is a one-page portfolio template built on the Astro framework for architects, structural engineers, and small design studios. It takes your content from a single src/content.json file and produces a static site in dist/ via npm run build, deployable to Netlify, Vercel, Cloudflare, or any static host. It is published by Formgong.
Key Features
- Astro static site — runs with
npm installandnpm run devonhttp://localhost:4321; the build output is a staticdist/folder. - Serverless contact form — posts directly to
https://formgong.com/submitusing a Formgong access key, with no backend, PHP, or serverless function. - Form fields and real states — submits
access_key,subject,botcheck,name,email,project,location,timing, andmessage, and shows a thank-you only when Formgong returnssuccess: true. - Spam protection — includes a honeypot check alongside success and error states derived from the real server response.
- Bundled fonts — Archivo shipped as WOFF2 files (Latin and Latin Extended) with no Google Fonts requests.
- Single content file — every text on the page lives in
src/content.json, including the form access key. - 10 Astro components — organized under
src/components/, with aBase.astrolayout and anindex.astropage. - Included pages — a one-page portfolio plus a privacy page, under the MIT license.
Who is it for?
- Architects: publish a one-page portfolio of built work and make it easy for prospective clients to send project inquiries.
- Structural engineers: present credentials and services while collecting project details such as location and timing through the contact form.
- Small design studios: launch a low-maintenance static site with no server to run, hosted on any static provider.
- Developers prototyping for clients: start from a working Astro layout and swap the fictional sample content for real copy and images.
What can you do with Quell?
- Capture project briefs: the form's
project, location, andtimingfields let visitors describe a job and its schedule, delivered to email and optionally Telegram, Slack, or Discord. - One-file rebranding: edit
src/content.jsonto change every headline, label, and the Formgong access key without touching components. - Free hosting: deploy the static
dist/output to Netlify, Vercel, or Cloudflare using the buttons in the repository.
How does Quell work?
Create a form at Formgong to get an access key, replace the fk_your_access_key value under form.access_key in src/content.json, then build. The form posts to Formgong, which emails each submission and reports success back to the page so it can render the thank-you state.
FAQ
Is Quell free?
Yes. Quell is MIT licensed and free to use, and Formgong offers a free plan for the form backend. The demo names, texts, and photos are fictional sample content that the page advises replacing before launch.
Do I need a server to run the contact form?
No. The form posts straight to https://formgong.com/submit, so there is no backend, PHP, or serverless function to deploy. You only need a Formgong access key placed in src/content.json.
Can I use the demo images?
The 15 images were generated with ChatGPT image generation, the people and places are fictional, and the template advises swapping them for your own photos before launch.
What fonts does Quell use?
Archivo, bundled as WOFF2 files covering Latin and Latin Extended, licensed under SIL Open Font License 1.1 with the licence texts stored beside the font files. No requests go to Google Fonts.
