Quarry

A free, MIT-licensed Astro theme for developer tool marketing sites, styled like a printed technical reference.

About this template

Quarry is a free, MIT-licensed Astro theme for a developer-tool marketing site, built to read like a printed technical reference rather than a card-grid landing page. It is maintained by ondelva.

What is Quarry?

Quarry is a static marketing-site theme for Astro that renders numbered sections, a single 38rem content column, and one accent colour. It runs on Astro 7 with Tailwind CSS v4 and produces a static site with zero client-side JavaScript. Site-specific values live in src/config.ts, and colours, measures and spacing are overridden as tokens in src/styles/theme.css.

Key Features

  • Marginal index — numbered section labels hang in the left margin while the section scrolls, implemented in pure CSS.
  • Astro 7 + Tailwind CSS v4 — static output and zero client-side JS; type-safe Markdown and MDX content collections.
  • Full page set — home, pricing, about, contact, privacy, terms, 404, plus a blog with list, post, tag archives, pagination, feed and reading time.
  • JSON-driven pricing — three plans read from one JSON file with no client JavaScript.
  • Contrast-checked syntax colours — the theme's own colour tokens drive syntax highlighting, and pnpm check:contrast fails the build on any pair below WCAG AA.
  • SEO and analytics — meta tags, Open Graph, JSON-LD, sitemap, robots.txt, and slots for Plausible, GA4 or Umami.
  • Developer conveniences — a dev-only /styleguide route listing every colour token and type size, an AGENTS.md for Claude Code and Cursor, and Lighthouse 100 on all four categories checked in CI.

Who is it for?

  • Developer-tool marketers who need a pricing page, blog and legal pages from a single config file.
  • Solo founders shipping a product site who want static output deployable to Cloudflare, Vercel, Netlify or GitHub Pages.
  • Documentation-heavy products that outgrow the free edition and need the Pro documentation site with sidebar groups, Pagefind search and per-page share cards.

What can you do with Quarry?

  • Launch a product site: set the site name, URL and navigation in src/config.ts, then deploy with the one-click Cloudflare, Netlify or Vercel buttons.
  • Publish a blog: write Markdown or MDX posts into type-safe collections and get tag archives, pagination, a feed and reading time automatically.
  • Ship accessible type: override tokens in theme.css and rely on the contrast check to keep colour pairs at WCAG AA.

How does Quarry work?

Scaffold the project with pnpm create astro@latest my-site -- --template ondelva/astro-theme-quarry, run pnpm install and pnpm dev, then edit src/config.ts and the theme tokens. Deployment set SITE_URL to your address afterwards.

Pricing

The free edition is MIT-licensed. Pro is sold at $49 for one person and $129 for a team of up to ten; it adds changelog, features, integrations, security and search pages, a full documentation site, Pagefind search, richer code blocks, pricing comparison matrix, post series, per-post share cards and four colour presets.

FAQ

Is Quarry free?

Yes. The free edition is released under the MIT license and includes the home, pricing, blog, about, contact, privacy, terms and 404 pages. The Pro edition is a separate paid product.

What does the free edition leave out?

The free edition has no documentation site, no search, one colour preset and a single default share-card image. Markdown tables are supported, but parameter tables and callouts only exist in Pro.
